While the sheer number of websites and the amount of contents on the Internet keeps on growing, the number of positions on the first page of Google’s search results is still only ten. As a result it will be getting more difficult for you to get you website found and people will start looking for other ways to find what they are looking for.
At the same time you may be fighting with other divisions in your company for space on your homepage. Or it may be almost impossible to give all the products you sell the same attention and exposure. And try to maintain a high standard of usability at the same time.
Change
Therefore it is time for change and there are two things you need to do. Go where your customers are and only offer them the information they are interested in.
That is why you have to start looking where your customers are and what social channels they are using. Start monitoring all these channels, set up an account, watch closely what is happening and try to get into contact with your customers.
Then use the communication with your customers to find out what information the are interested in and what they expect from you. And finally make sure the information is available there where your customers are.
Stop counting visitors
And what about your website? Your website will be the place where your information is stored. A library where people who are prepared to spend some extra time are able to find those special pieces of information they are looking for.
Therefore you should forget about counting the visitors to your website to measure the success of you Internet marketing activities. Measure conversions on the social channels, customer satisfaction and all those other factors that really matter.
