Outlook Facebook Integration

July 21, 2010

email social media b2b marketing ceekueMicrosoft has integrated Facebook into Outlook using the Outlook Social Connector plugin that was introduced last year. Making it possible to connect Facebook accounts to contactpersons in Outlook and providing Facebook updates.

This way Microsoft is providing a way to view your social network connections as you look through your email. Integrating Outlook with social media.

Microsoft’s move to connect Outlook with social media is understandable. They have to do it for Outlook to survive. Because the new generation is no longer using email to connect. Young people use social networks to communicate and some of them have never sent an email in their lifes.

This development may well mean the end of email as we have known it until now. Also for B2B marketing. Because these young people are your future customers. In a few years email will be like the fax machine today. You have one in our office, but it is hardly used anymore. Or, as with the future Outlook, in a completely different way than we use it today.
