Not too much SEO, says Google

February 23, 2010

“… you should base your (search engine) optimization decisions first and foremost on what’s best for the visitors of your site. (…) Focusing too hard on specific tweaks to gain ranking in the organic results of search engines may not deliver the desired results.”

Says Google in their Google’s Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide.

Although the starter guide was published in November 2008 – and you never know what Google has changed in the meantime – it offers you a lot of useful tips to optimize your website.

But as Google says, you should always put your website’s contents and usability in the first place. And remember there are always alternative ways to get more people to visit your website.
