Google Algorithms – pure science

To get more visitors to your website you need to be high in Google’s search results. SEO is the name of the game. But how to get the best results out of the more than 200 algorithms used by Google to index your site is extremely difficult.

There is a great post Explaning some of Google’s Algorithms on the website of Seomoz, a Seattle based company providing SEO services. Although there is a big change you will get lost after a few graphs (I did), there is information in there that you can start using right-a-way :

  • you need links to your website, but they need to be good links
  • use keywords in the ALT-tags of your pictures, but don’t overdo it
  • it looks like H1 – H4 tags do not make a lot of difference
  • keyword stuffing is not going to help you, it can even have a negative effect on your results

But getting high in Google’s results and generating traffic to your website is of course only half the job. How to keep visitors on your site longer than a few seconds and how to make them return is a completely different story. I therefore think in B2B marketing content and usability may well play a much more important role.
