In a few weeks we are going to introduce a new e-mail newsletter system in our company. One of the things that still has to be done is finish the standard template. As part of this new template I am looking into the possibility to include some kind of Forward To A Friend button.
Pro’s and Contra’s
Today I came across a post by Maria Pergolino on the Marketo blog on this same subject. Forwarding an e-newsletter to a friend. There are pro’s and contra’s. It is always good when people help you distribute your news and a Forward To A Friend button can give them the little push they need to send it along. On the other end people are always able to hit the standard e-mail forward button and your extra button may only be superfluous.
Extend the Reach
The important message is however you must be able to look beyond what you are used to. That means your e-newsletter should not include a Forward To A Friend button. Instead there should be Share and Bookmarkbuttons that enable people to share your newsletter on Facebook, Linkedin or Twitter and to publish bookmarks on Digg, StumbleUpon and all these other sites. This way you will be able to extend the reach of your e-newsletter dramatically.
You don’t have to do all the work yourself. There are dedicated customers that love to spread the word for you. You only have to give them the possibility and make it as easy as possible for them to do it.
