Do not worry about monetizing Social Media in B2B marketing

February 21, 2010

Once in a while I come across posts about monetizing Social Media. What is the ROI of your Social Media activities. Are you making money using Twitter, Facebook or Linkedin for B2B marketing.

Social Media is a bunch of channels you use to communicate with your customers. Channels just like your telephone, your fax machine or like your email server.

Have you ever asked yourself what the ROI is of your telephone system. How do you monetize your fax machine or how much money does your email server generate.

Costs are involved in using Social Media. Setting up a channel and maintaining it is relatively inexpensive. But monitoring your channels and keeping up the communication with your customers will cost you money. Like it will cost you money to have somebody picking up the phone or answering a fax or email.

But all your communication channels, traditional and new channels, also  bring you money. Because people interested in buying your products will use them to get in touch with you.

So you will eventually get a return on your investment. But don’t bother too much about when or how much. Have the different channels available and manned. And let your customers decide how to get in touch with you.
