Why mobile B2B marketing

Christina Kerley writes on MarketingProfs about the Five Reasons Why Mobile Marketing Is Prime for B2Bs. I think she is right when she says the role of mobile will increase in the (near) future.

But I say you better first think before your act. As always, start with asking yourself a few questions before  you go mobile.

  • When are people using their mobile phone to access your website. My guess is when they are travelling. Not when they are in their office. Because then they use their laptop or PC.
  • On airports I see a lot of people using their laptop. So surfing the web on the road is not limited to mobile phones only.
  • What information are people looking for when travelling. If they are looking for information about your company or products, this will mostly be general and not very detailed information.
  • If people are looking for very detailed information about your products, my guess is that these will probably be people like service engineers working on one of your products or machines. People that need the information immediately. People that cannot use general information and who need the information on the spot.

So please wait with building a special mobile copy of your website . First ask yourself for whom you are doing that.
