63 characters that improve your Google ranking

January 28, 2010

Everybody wants to be at least in the top 5 of the Google organic search results. You may even be dreaming of a number one position. Therefore Search Engine Optimisation is hot.

Nobody knows

The problem is nobody knows for sure how Google calculates your position. Even the SEO-experts do not always agree on what you should do to improve.

Improvement

One improvement that most SEO-experts agree on and that you can easily take care of yourself is the Title Tag, the title of a web-page. According to the SEOmoz Search Engine 2009 Ranking Factors keyword use in the Title Tag is the most effective on-page (keyword-specific) ranking factor.

Google indexes the first 63 characters of your Title Tag. Using a keyword as the first word in the Title Tag gives you extra advantage over other websites. And of course you must make sure that each page in your website has a unique title.
